I have actually owned this book for quite a while, but keep on adding it to the bottom of my reading list. Mostly due to the daunting thickness and the publication of more titles that I decide I just have to read first. However, with the current situation with rampaging viruses and the need to remain indoors, I have found that I have managed to complete a read of this famous fantasy novel. I have to admit that I have enjoyed reading every bit of it, even though at times I would never manage to get to the end of the novel!
This book compares to that of the Lord of the Rings series, however has its own epic storyline that makes it stand out with its own separateness. It is a complete world of magic and possibilities with some utterly fantastic characters that have been compiled by a tremendous author. Following Pug and his counterparts throughout this novel has been a joy. Each are well developed and how they play into the storyline seamlessly. My most favourite characters would have to be Pug and Tomas. Both of them having suffered and gained so much from the chain of actions that neither had any idea would occur.
The storyline itself is one of amazing feats. I found it difficult to predict most of what was happening, and most of what I found was surprising to say the least! It is full of adventure and intrigue, with people almost always at war, there is always something happening. This makes this book really become a page turner and in various areas is impossible to put down especially when lives our our favorites are on the line. I have to admit to a few late nights reading, waking up to find my glasses askew and my book still in my lap. But I also must say that it was well worth it.
Overall I believe this to be one of the greatest epic fantasy novels written and I am really looking forward to read what is to follow in the next book in the series. I feel the adult age group who favor the fantasy genre will enjoy this book, as will anyone who loved Lord of the Rings and the Game of Thrones series. I give this book a rating of 10/10 stars. Well worth the read.
