Book Reviews

Book Review: Empire of Dirt, by Philip C Quaintrell (2017).

What a fantastic novel to follow the first in this action packed, heartbreaking adventurous fantasy series. Dragons have to be one of my favourite fantasy creatures, and Empire of Dirt is on no shortage of these. Nor in Elves, Mage, and of course evil Darkakin. The story remains fast paced and adventurous, and another novel difficult to put down.

There are so many things happening all over the realm, with characters spread out throughout the lands. But of all of them I would have to say I like Gideon the best. He is a young Mage that isn’t entirely sure of his direction in the world, and ends up finding himself in the centre of an adventure of a lifetime. I feel that Gideon Thorn will come to believe meeting the Dragon’s is the best thing that has ever happened to him.

The relationship and connection between characters are extremely well written and portrayed in a way that really shows the reader the deeper relationships between them. Which also gives the reader ample opportunity to choose a favourite, but still enjoy each characters storyline individually without losing interest and skipping forward (heavens forbid!).

Overall I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys fantasy at its best. Filled with amazing magic and more, this book is a great read for the young adult age group and above. I have really enjoyed reading this novel and I honestly can’t wait to read the final book in the series. I give this book a rating of 9.5/10 stars.
